ARCA/CRA Super Series kicks off season with event at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Georgia

(CORDELE, Ga. – January 25, 2013) - The ARCA/CRA Super Series will make its season debut this weekend with the 200-lap SpeedFest 2013 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga.

The field will consist of several drivers with ties to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

Practice begins today at the Georgia speedway with qualifying and other events Saturday and the race going green around 2 p.m. Sunday. It will follow a 100-lap JEGS/CRA race on the 3/8-mile paved track.

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver David Ragan, a veteran ARCA Racing Series driver, was among the early entries for the SpeedFest event. He finished third last year, a couple of spots behind winner Kyle Busch.

Also entered is Kyle Benjamin, who won the Fatheadz Eyewear 100 at Lucas Oil Raceway in 2012, becoming the youngest winner in the ARCA/CRA Super Series history. He has signed with Venturinin Motorsports to run four ARCA Racing Series events this season, including races at Mobile (March 9), Toledo (May 19), Winchester (June 30) and Iowa (Sept. 7).

Chase Elliott and Erik Jones (pictured) are two more young drivers with ARCA Racing Series plans that are entered into the SpeedFest 2013 race.

SpeedFest 2013 will consist of a 200 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series event and a 100 lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance special event. Only green flag laps will count in both races, something new from previous years. At lap 100 of the ARCA/CRA event, there will be a break from action.

After Sunday’s race, the ARCA/CRA Super Series will be off until April. It has races scheduled for April 20 at Toledo Speedway and Aug. 17 at Flat Rock Speedway among its 17-race card in 2013.
