Gallagher says 'Toledo is textbook short-track'; Menards 200 next

(TOLEDO, Ohio – May 16, 2014) – Spencer Gallagher calls Toledo Speedway a ‘textbook’ short track, and oh yeah, he really likes it too. Gallagher, in fact, likes just about any short track he can get his hands on; his career-best finishes on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour have come on short tracks.

And if he can turn the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo this weekend into his career-best finish, he’ll be headed to the 7-UP Winners Circle.

“I really like Toledo,” Gallagher said.

“It’s a cool little place that almost resembles Mobile in that it’s a racy half-mile; a textbook short track. You have the standard one and a half racing lines and can use the apron to make passes. We have had a lot of bad luck there in the past but there is no reason my GMS Racing team can’t go there and contend for the win.”

Gallagher finished a career-best second at Salem Speedway – another half-mile short track – twice, including earlier this year. With four races in this season, the Las Vegas, Nevada driver is off to an impressive start…currently fifth in championship standings.

“Between Mobile, Salem, and Talladega, we are in the midst of a good little run here so far with a seventh, second, and fifth. We have continued to improve at every track we go back to compared to last season and that’s really all you can ask for.”

Gallagher is certainly hungry for his first ARCA win, and believes that consistency will help him get there.

“Our goal for this season is to top-five them to death, because when you top-five consistently, you just start winning. It’s crazy how it works, but when you put yourself in position, sooner or later you will win. We aren’t focusing on getting to Victory Lane. We are focused on running great. When you do that, great things will happen.”

Gallagher’s crew chief Ryan ‘Pickle’ London knows the team needs to turn their luck around at Toledo.

“The racetrack in Toledo has less banking than some of the other tracks we go to and it doesn’t seem to have a ton of grip,” London said.

“You run the bottom groove, but you have to be careful in turns three and four. The racing is always great for the fans; our team just hasn’t had a ton of luck there over the last two years. My goal for Toledo is head home with a top-five finish.”

The weekend’s activities include two ARCA Racing Series practice sessions Saturday, May 17 from 11:45-12:30 and 1-1:45, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 3:30. An ARCA-sanctioned Sportsman feature race will follow qualifying Saturday afternoon. The Menards 200 is Sunday at 2, with an autograph session from noon to 1. Pre-race and driver introductions follow the autograph session.

The Menards 200 is live on FOX Sports 1.

ARCAracing.com will provide live timing & scoring and live streaming audio of all on-track activities both Saturday and Sunday.

Gallagher will pilot Chassis No. 307 in the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway. This is the same chassis Gallagher drove to a seventh-place finish at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway earlier this season. In addition, the Las Vegas native raced this Chevrolet Impala at Toledo Speedway and Iowa Speedway in 2013.

TEAMMATE ON THE ROOF: Gallagher will have NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teammate Max Gresham on the roof, handling spotter duties for this weekend in Toledo. Gresham is a former ARCA Racing Series winner at Mansfield Motorsports Park in 2010.

TALLADEGA RECAP: Two weeks ago during the ARCA Racing Series event at Talladega Superspeedway, Gallagher started the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 from the 18th position. Driving the No. 23 Alamo Rent A Car Chevrolet Impala, Gallagher patiently drove his way into the top-10 and after the lone green flag pit stop was scored inside the top-five. Gallagher finished the 76-lap event in the fifth position.

MEET SPENCER: Gallagher will join fellow ARCA Racing Series drivers to sign autographs on Sunday, May 18th from 12 Noon to 1:00 P.M. ET. The pre-race autograph session will take place on track at Toledo Speedway.
