Selling Out, but Hopefully not Retiring!
By Robbin Slaughter - GROVE CITY OH (10-9-08) - Most of you probably don't know but a couple of months ago I made the decision to sell out at the end of this season. The expenses versus what there is the potential to take in are just way out of proportion. It has finally reached the point where I can't even justify it in my own mind.
Ever since I made that decision I have been thinking about what it will be like heading into the last race of the season. When I sold out the last time at the end of the 2003 season I knew that I was going to do some races in 2004 with the Robert Locke ARCA Re/Max Series team and maybe some truck series races so I knew I would be racing something. At this point I want to keep driving but the reality is I have nothing lined up for 2009 and after twenty nine years of driving it is a little scary......

GROVE CITY OH - To say Salem was a disappointment to our team would be an understatement. We went into the race with the same setup that we ran well with last year and our hopes were high that we could have a strong run. It just didn't work out that way. We started out OK showing as sixth fastest our first couple of times out in practice. We actually picked up a couple of tenths and dropped to tenth before the session was over, not a good sign. We just couldn't get the truck to turn like it should in turns one and two.

SALEM IN (9-13-08) - ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series veteran Steve Christman, in the Bagman Racing Chassis-R&B Fabrication Chevy S-10, raced from the 10th starting position to win the Advance Auto Parts 50 Saturday afternoon at Salem Speedway.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana driver took the lead for the final time on lap 28, and then held off Nick Gullatta to earn the hard-fought victory and first-ever at Salem.
"Can't think of anyone else I'd rather be battling with out there other than Nick (Gullatta)," said Christman. "He races me hard, but always clean. Our truck was really working. I could put it about anywhere I needed to." Results

Salem Speedway, a Very Special Place
GROVE CITY OH (9-11-08) - Salem Indiana Speedway has been in my top three favorite tracks (along with Winchester & Toledo) ever since our first race there in September 1999. I was fortunate to be seated at the same table with track owners Owen and Beverly Thompson at the 2000 ARCA RE/MAX Series banquet and really enjoyed talking to them about the track, its history and racing in general. It didn't take long to figure out they are very passionate about their track and are a hard working couple! On top of that Owen bought my last ARCA Pro-4 car and raced it for many years in his track's 4 cylinder division! There are numerous reasons why Salem is a special place to us and I would like to share a few of them.

GROVE CITY OH (8-22-08) - Numerous people (OK, at least two) have been asking when I am going to do another column, so here it is. It is hard to believe that we have run four races and had a rainout since my last one. At this point I am just thankful that we are still out there "living the dream!"
At the end of my last column I mentioned that we had come to the realization that there was something wrong with our engine and had taken it to Tom Hooker Engines in Indy. Hooker did a great job getting it repaired for us in time for the Kil Kare race.

SPRINGFIELD IL (8-16-08) - Nick Gullatta fought off Norm Weaver for much of the way, then, turned back a late-race charge from Steve Christman to win the ARCA Lincoln Welders Trucks Series Best Western Challenge Saturday afternoon at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD IL (8-15-08) - At 8 am Friday morning 5 ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series officials and our illustrious PR guy set out on a 420 mile journey to Springfield, Illinois for the Saturday running of the Best Western Challenge - on a mile dirt track.
The journey, as we like to call it, kind of reminds me of the grass roots style of racing that we have all come to love.
We all usually travel in one vehicle along with all the equipment needed to put on the show. We usually get meals to go so we can get back on the road.
