(BROOKLYN, Mich. - June 14, 2012) - After Brennan Poole posted record speeds last week at Pocono Raceway, his Venturini Motorsports teammate Kevin Swindell drove the fastest lap in ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards practice on the newly-repaved Michigan International Speedway this afternoon.
The three-time defending Chili Bowl champion Swindell, driving the No. 55 Toyota in one of eight events this season for the team, topped a list of 35 drivers with a best lap of 37.278 seconds (193.143 mph), which would top Cale Gale's track qualifying record by 3.5 mph if achieved in Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell tomorrow.
Five drivers in all topped Gale's 2011 mark of 189.623 mph. After Swindell, Coulter Motorsports teammates Joey Coulter and Matt Lofton topped ARCA newcomer Kyle Larson of Eddie Sharp Racing and Cunningham Motorsports' Alex Bowman.
Chris Buescher, Ryan Reed, Frank Kimmel, Chad Hackenbracht, and Poole filled out the rest of the top 10.
The 95-minute practice session was interrupted
by several contact incidents. ARCA teams used most of Thursday to prepare for the session as NASCAR teams tested Michigan's new pavement for the first time.
