Jones Leads Final Practice After Second Rain Delay

joneserik12.jpg(INDIANAPOLIS - July 27, 2012) - A second afternoon shower temporarily kept cars off track in the final practice session at Lucas Oil Raceway, but Erik Jones used a late charge to move to the top of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards speed chart.

After rain cut short the first practice session by approximately 15 minutes, ARCA drivers and teams lost about half of the second 45-minute session to more rain in western Indianapolis. With about seven minutes to go before the 3:45 p.m. cutoff, cars were allowed to go back on track and Jones turned in the fastest lap by any driver today: 22.217 seconds, or 111.158 mph, around the 0.686-mile oval in the No. 55 Chevrolet.

Jones' Venturini Motorsports teammate Brennan Poole was second in the session, 0.026 second behind. Clay Rogers, Matt Lofton, and Kevin Swindell comprised the rest of the top five.

Mason Mitchell was sixth, just ahead of Chad Hackenbracht. Hackenbracht led the second session through the lengthy delay for rain just after topping the chart in the first practice.

Nine-time ARCA championjonescarlor12.jpg Frank Kimmel was eighth ahead of ThorSport Racing teammate Matt Crafton. Mason Mingus, who will also compete in the ARCA CRA Super Series race tonight at 7 p.m., finished the final practice 10th.

Points leader Chris Buescher ended the session 16th. The results of the session are available by clicking here.

Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell will start at 6 p.m. and set the field for tonight's Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 presented by Federated Car Care. The race will air at 9 p.m. on SPEED.
