(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 1, 2012) - The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is known for competing on a balance of speedways, short tracks, and more in any given season. After this week's race at Pocono, though, very little speedway action will remain.
What's it all mean? First, it's that two dirt races and events on three very different short tracks will dot the schedule before the Kansas Speedway season finale on Friday, October 19.
Second, it means that the pursuit of the Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Award is nearing its finish and the top contenders for the award are coming into a clearer view.
The Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Award is given to the owner of the ARCA Racing Series team scoring the most race points - not counting qualifying or lap bonuses - in the seven races at Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Pocono Raceway (two), Michigan International Speedway, Chicagoland, and Kansas Speedway.
Saturday's Pennsylvania ARCA 125 at Pocono will be the sixth event in the competition. The award will officially be presented in December at the ARCA Racing Series Championship Awards Banquet in Indianapolis.
Based in Lakeville, Ind., Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. produces the Official Tire of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and is part of one of the longest-standing sponsor relationships in ARCA's 59-year history. Hoosier has participated as a supplier for ARCA-sanctioned events since the 1960s and has been the exclusive tire provider for the ARCA Racing Series since 1995.
A chart showcasing points earned through five races is below. The top team and the sixth-ranking team are owned by Cathy Venturini; her No. 25 entry leads cars owned by Duke Thorson (44), Greg Hackenbracht (58), Russell Roulo (17), and Bill Venturini (15). The driver names are listed.
