Joliet, ILLINOIS (September 3, 2008) - - Still looking for his first top-five finish of his ARCA RE/MAX Series career, sophomore ARCA RE/MAX Series Bryan Silas is looking for the complete package and his fifth top-10 finish of the season in Saturday's Chicagoland ARCA 200 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Earlier this week, Silas regained some much needed momentum after finishing a solid 10th in the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Despite some early and mid-season setbacks Silas, the Fast Track Racing development driver, continues to improve. Though a series of obstacles throughout the year have kept the young Stuart, Florida driver out of the championship hunt, Silas hasn't lost his genuine smile or his hope to use the final mile-and-a-half track to his advantage in Saturday afternoons rumble.
And there's good reason why the 21-year old driver should be excited about heading back to the Windy City. Last year, Silas flourished in ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying by putting his Andy Hillenburg-owned machine seventh on the starting grid.
While the race didn't go as planned, Silas continued to sport the one word that always follows him, consistency. Taking the checkered flag, Silas utilized the Chicagoland event to help him capture a top-10 in the final championship points in his rookie year of competition.
A year later and just outside the top-10 standings with just five races remaining in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Silas knows that a lot of work still has to be done. But Silas is first to admit, that it can be done and with a little change of luck, Silas's goal of finishing the season inside the top-10 can be accomplished.
"I'm glad to be back at these bigger tracks," sounded Silas. "It's like a comfort zone for me. I always seem to run well on these tracks. Last year, Chicagoland was nice to us early in the weekend but not as nice during the race. We hope to have the complete package on Saturday night."
Silas points out that working with his winning crew chief Jeff McClure has been beneficial and expects McClure's knowledge to be keen in the yearly stop to the Chicago area. "Overall, our speedway program has improved this year and a lot of it has to do with the presence of Jeff McClure. His books on these type of tracks are thick. Together we know what our car needs and hope it will pay off this weekend."
Nortrax, Shell Rotella T, Holland Pump, Oasis, Palm Beach Grading (PBG) and Rockingham Speedway will all sponsor the No. 11 Ford Fusion in the 17th event on the 2008 ARCA calendar.
"Chicagoland is a great facility and in the past has provided some great racing. We'll have an in-car camera for the race, so we invite everyone to tune into the race on Sunday (tape-delayed) and experience the action for yourself."
Entering Chicagoland, Silas has 45 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with a career best finish of eighth at Kentucky Speedway (May 2008), Iowa Speedway (April 2008), Salem Speedway (April 2007 and April 2008) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2007) while holding an additional top-10 performance at USA International Speedway (March 2007). He holds a career best short track time trials effort of seventh at Berlin Raceway (July 2007). A fourth place qualifying effort at Pocono Raceway (June 2007) is Silas's best speedway run to date. He has controlled the ARCA field for 26 laps in three races.
The Chicagoland ARCA 200 (200 miles/134 laps) is the 17th of 21 events on the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The eighth ARCA race at Chicagoland Speedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Friday September 5 with a two hour practice session planned from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. The field will take the green flag on Saturday September 6 shortly after 5:00 p.m. The race will be next day taped-delay on SPEED (Sunday September 6 at 4:00 p.m.) with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring available online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.
