STUART FL (1-12-09) - Despite a rough economy, Stuart, Florida native Bryan Silas is rejuvenated and recharged for a third season of ARCA RE/MAX Series competition which begins in less than a month at Daytona International Speedway in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on Saturday, February 7.
Silas will return to the ARCA RE/MAX Series full time for the 2009 season driving for 1995 ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Andy Hillenburg.
"I'm very thankful and appreciative that despite our current economic conditions, our sponsors have stood behind me and our Fast Track team to give it another shot in the ARCA RE/MAX Series," said Silas, who finished 12th in the championship chase last season.
Silas is eager to get back to racing while hoping to bring Hillenburg, a two-time ARCA 200 winner at Daytona, back to victory lane at the "World Center of Racing". He will also be focusing on making his return to the top-10 in the championship point standings.
The 21-year old showed maturity and consistency in his sophomore season by earning seven top-10 finishes including a career best sixth place at Chicagoland Speedway last September. Silas also showcased his dirt track skills by collecting his first top-10 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in 2008.
Last season ended on a high note for the Fast Track Racing team at Toledo Speedway where Silas maneuvered his way to a solid seventh place finish from the 26th starting position.
This year, Silas is hoping to start this season much like he did last season.
"We had a decent test at Daytona last month," added Silas, who posted the 18th fastest effort overall in the three-day test. "Actually, it was probably the best restrictor plate test I've had since joining the ARCA RE/MAX Series. The car is strong and it can draft, so my hopes are high for the race. Starting the season off with a fresh run can bring back the momentum we enjoyed at the end of last season."
Reuniting with Fast Track Racing in 2009 will be Cal Boprey, who will serve as Silas's crew chief. Boprey held the same role at Fast Track Racing in 2004 with driver A.J. Fike. Since then, he has spent the past several years between the NASCAR Camping World and NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Nason, Yeager, Gerson, White & Lioce P.A., Holland Pump, Oasis, Palm Beach Grading (PBG) and Rockingham Speedway will all sponsor Silas's machine which will once again consist of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Ford Fusion body styles.
In addition to the ARCA RE/MAX Series slate, Silas and his Fast Track Racing team will run a limited NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule, which is set to roll off with the NextEra Energy Resources 250 on February 13 at Daytona.
Entering the 2009 ARCA season, Silas has 50 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with a career best finish of sixth at Chicagoland Speedway (September 2008) with additional top-10 finishes of seventh at Toledo Speedway (October 2008), eighth at Kentucky Speedway (May 2008), Iowa Speedway (April 2008), Salem Speedway (April 2007 and April 2008) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2007), a ninth at Salem Speedway (September 2008) and a 10th at USA International Speedway (March 2007) and DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (September 2008). He holds a career best short track time trials effort of seventh at Berlin Raceway (July 2007). A fourth place qualifying effort at Pocono Raceway (June 2007) is Silas's best speedway run to date. He has led 26 laps overall in three races.
