TOLEDO, Ohio (January 14, 2010)--July and August marked the peak of the 2009 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards Season with tracks such as Iowa, Kentucky, Berlin, Pocono, Springfield, and Chicagoland hosting race events that can be described only as "action-packed". From a 15-lap side-by-side race lead battle at Kentucky to rookie/veteran rumblings at Berlin, drivers had plenty to say during post-race interviews. The best from July and August...
July: Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway
"At the end of the race pit strategy came into play. I could see the front two took tires and my teammate, Dakoda Armstrong, took two tires, but we took four so I knew that we would have a shot at racing past them." -race winner Parker Kligerman (No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge).
"That's twice that we have lost it to Parker [Kligerman]." -Austin Dillon (finished second in the No. 31 RCR Chevrolet).
July: Click It or Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 at Kentucky Speedway
"I think the last ten laps was one heck of a race. I didn't think we could get him [Grant Enfinger] at one point. The last corner of the last lap I went into there with the mentality that it would either be wreckers or checkers and it was checkers so that was pretty good." -Parker Kligerman after battling with Grant Enfinger side-by-side for 15 laps to win the Click It or Ticket. Buckle Up Kentucky 150 in the No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge, his fourth consecutive win of 2009.
"I was clear there at the start finish line and he got a great run going into two and it was just a bonsai move. I knew I would only have one more chance so I backed down a little bit and then I got back into the gas and it just didn't stick. But man that was a great battle there running with Parker Kligerman side-by-side for about the last 15 laps and I need to really thank him for running me clean. We are a very low budget team, just stringing parts and pieces of this car together to try and make it work and a finish like this really means a lot." -Grant Enfinger (finished second in the No. 83 BeasleyAllen.com Ford).
July: Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac at Berlin Raceway
"Everybody comes in to this place and dives up the track. I probably should have been more patient with him [Frank Kimmel] especially with as much experience as he has here and as good as he has been here, so I apologize for that. It feels good [to come to Berlin and finish third as a 17-year-old] but it's not all me. It's everyone over at BKR Racing-especially my crew chief [Wayne Setterington]. He's just awesome and we work really well together." -Chad Finley, who finished third in the No. 29 Auto Value Service Centers-Auto Parts2020.com Chevrolet at Berlin Raceway despite ruffling a few feathers by driving aggressively through the field.
"We were definitely a factor until the 29 car turned us and we just flat got ran over. That was really frustrating. It would have been great to not only have the finish we deserved but to have reached that 10,000 laps led mark." -Frank Kimmel (finished 12th in the No. 44 Ansell-Menards Ford Fusion).
August: Pennsylvania 200 at Pocono Raceway
"Honestly when the 77 ended up in the wall I was kind of relieved because I knew that he was our biggest threat at the finish." -race winner Justin Lofton discussing an on-track incident between Parker Kligerman (No. 77 Dodge) and Steve Arpin (No. 25 Toyota) during the late stages of the Pennsylvania 200.
"It's a bad deal that we got together with Parker [Kligerman] there at the end. He races all of us clean each and every week and I feel horrible for getting into him. We just got a little tight and got his left rear. He had a shot at winning that race." -Steve Arpin (finished fourth in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota).
"I could see the contact between the 25 and the 77 and I think the consensus was that it was bound to happen. It was just a matter of when and where. I was pretty busy when they made contact trying to determine whether to go high or low. It turned out okay for us in the end, which was good."-Craig Goess (finished third in the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of NC Toyota for Eddie Sharp Racing) after watching Steve Arpin (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota) and Parker Kligerman (No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge) make contact.
August: Allen Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds
"I just got on it real good in that last restart. I saw that the 28 was trying to hang back and so I just went when he was hanging back so that he didn't get the jump. If they stay close then you brake and if they hold back then you go." -Race Winner Parker Kligerman (No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge).
August: Ansell Cut Protection 150 at Chicagoland Speedway
"At that last restart honestly the only thing I was thinking was ‘oh dang' because I had acquired a little bit of a lead there and I knew that there were some pretty strong cars behind me. It was great during that race to be able to battle against some of those guys for the lead, especially Brian Ickler because I grew up racing with him and to race him in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and come out ahead feels pretty good to me." -Justin Lofton (No. 6 Lofton Cattle Toyota) after winning at Chicagoland.
"I felt like we had the fastest car and it took us 100 laps to do it but I think we proved it tonight. I've never been so disappointed in my life. Our car was definitely fastest tonight, unlike at Kentucky where we battled side-by-side for the lead but the cars were pretty much even." -Grant Enfinger (finished second in the No. 83 BeasleyAllen.com-Roush Performance Parts Ford).
