DeWITT MI (3-15-10) - Soon to be 18-year-old (March 17th) Chad Finley opened plenty of eyes in limited appearances with the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards, including his own with his first superspeedway test of his career.
Finley and the Brad Keselowski Racing (BKR) team made the trip down to the Lone Star State for the recent ARCA open test at Texas Motor Speedway. By the end of the day Finley was sixth fastest overall among the 21 drivers who participated in the all-day open test.
"Texas is an awesome track," said Finley. "You see these places on TV and I've even been to quite a few of them back when my Dad was racing but you don't get the respect for them until you actually roll out onto them for the first time. It was a very exciting feeling to say the least."
Finley's fastest lap around the 1.5-mile oval was 29.422 seconds, an average speed of 183.536 mph, just .389 seconds off of the fastest lap of the test.
"Once we got going, I was very comfortable in the car and on the track. I can't say enough about the car that the BKR bunch brought here; it was fast right off the truck and we were able to make gains on it all day. I'm very excited about coming back here for the race next month.
I only wish it was next week so we could carry the momentum that we created at the test."
BKR crew chief Wayne Setterington added, "We were very pleased with the Texas test. Chad was able to get up to speed in about five laps which is just remarkable considering it was his first trip to a speedway larger than a mile.
"We were able to cycle through our whole test plan with time to spare which speaks highly of both the crew here at BKR and Chad who was able to provide us great feedback. We are very excited about our return to Texas in April for the race."
In addition to the April 16th Rattlesnake 150 at Texas, other races on Finley's schedule in 2010 include both at Pocono Raceway, and the Racing For Wildlife 200 at Michigan Int'l Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan on June 11th.
There are also plans to race at Chicagoland Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Kansas Speedway and the Rockingham Speedway season finale.
In addition to his ARCA schedule, Finley will also race in select events in the ASA Late Model Northern Series as well as several races in his Outlaw Super Late Model in events across Michigan as well as Indiana and Ohio.
Finley turned a lot of heads in 2009 earning one pole award, one top-5 finish (third at Berlin Raceway), three top-10s and no finish worse than 15th in four career starts.
