(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 29, 2012) - Toledo Speedway’s ½ mile high-banked,
lightning-fast paved oval is the site for leg number 4 of the 6-race ARCA
Allegiant Late Model Gold Cup Series Friday evening, July 6. Harold Fair Jr., winner of last Saturday’s
Gold Cup race, the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 at Flat Rock
Speedway, is primed and ready to make it 2 in a row.
The first
Allegiant Gold Cup race of the season was held at Toledo April 29. Terry Senneker was the winner, while leg
number 2, held at the Spartan Speedway near Lansing, MI
was won by Mike Luberda Jr. Fair’s win
last week helped the second-generation driver right the ship after a tough
start to the 2012 season.
Current point
leader Claude Plante Jr. is also entered, along with Dennis Strickland (2nd
at Flat Rock), who trails by just 20 markers after 3 races. Dakota Carlson, Mike Root and Craig Everage
round out the top 5 in the points heading into the July 6 Toledo race.
Luberda, Ron Allen, Fair Jr., Steve Cronenwett Jr. and Jack Varney Jr.
round out the top ten point men at the half-way mark of the series.
A field of
20-25 cars is expected at Toledo
Friday night. Local driver Chad Guinn is
also entered, coming on the heels of his third place run at Flat Rock. Several drivers that missed the Flat Rock
event due to schedule conflicts are expected at Toledo, which will provide more strength to
an already-impressive field of machines.
The support
race for the July 6 date at Toledo
will be a 50 lap Road Course race, which uses parts of the ½ mile, ¼ mile and
pit road! Figure 8 cars, Street Stocks,
Factory Stocks, Enduro cars, Sportsman and 4 Cylinders make up the field for
the wild event, which will pay $500 to win.
This event will be the longest distance for a road course race at Toledo since the event
began several years ago. The course also
features at least 1 tight chicane, which provides excitement and thrills for
the fans!
The pit area
will open at 2:30, practice for the Late Models begins at 4:30 (the front gates
will also open at 4:30), time trials are set for 6:15, the road course practice
session is at 6:45 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. Weather permitting, an on-track autograph
session with the drivers will be held prior to the start of the 100 lap main
event. Bus rides around the speedway are
also being planned, if time permits.
Fans may
purchase tickets online at www.toledospeedway.com. The track office number is 419-727-1100. The track is located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit
on the Michigan-Ohio border.
