NOTES OF INTEREST: This year's Hantz Group 200 presented by Federated Car Care marks the 63rd appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Toledo Speedway since 1963.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veterans' Ken Schrader and David Ragan have both filed entries for this year's ARCA/Toledo classic. Schrader has 15 career ARCA RE/MAX Series victories including 4 at Toledo in '97, '04, '05 & ‘06. Ragan made 29 career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts with 1 victory at Lanier Nat'l Speedway in 2005. Ragan also finished 2nd at Toledo Speedway in 2005.
Roush-Fenway Racing's Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., following his career-first victory at Kentucky Speedway last Saturday, is leading the points over Frank Kimmel by a slim five-point margin headed to Toledo. Kimmel, a 9-time series champion, is the all-time Toledo winner with 9 victories.
Formula 1 veteran Scott Speed will be making his Toledo debut in the Hantz Group 200. Speed, who won at Kansas and finished 2nd at Kentucky in the Red Bull Toyota, is currently 6th in points.
Six of the top-10 drivers in championship points are rookies: Stenhouse 1st, John Wes Townley 3rd, Matt Carter 4th, Tom Hessert III 5th, Scott Speed 6th, and Tayler Malsam 10th.
In six events so far in 2008, there have been 6 different winners: Michael Annett at Daytona, Justin Allgaier at Salem, Matt Hawkins at Iowa, Scott Speed at Kansas, Joey Logano at Rockingham and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. at Kentucky. From the list of winners, 4 are first-time winners including Hawkins, Speed, Logano and Stenhouse.
Other drivers entered currently not in the top-10 points include Pennsylvanian's Bobby Gerhart, Chase Mattioli and Norm Benning. Gerhart is a 5-time Daytona winner. Mattioli, who made his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut at Salem with a 12th place finish, is the grandson of Pocono Raceway track promoters/owners Drs. Joe and Rose Mattioli. Benning has been a top-10 points finisher 7 times.
Other entrants include Denver, North Carolina's Matt Carter, who is the son of longtime NASCAR team owner/crew chief Travis Carter. Matt also has replaced Frank Kimmel as driver of the 46 Ford. Third-generation racer Billy Venturini is also entered as is 3-time series winner Justin Allgaier, 73-year-old James Hylton, Amherstburg, Ontario's Terry Jones, Westby, Wisconsin's Dexter Bean, Suwanee, Georgia's Michael Phelps, Indiantown, Florida's Patrick Sheltra, Clarkston, Michigan Michael Simko, Phoenix, Arizona's Gabi DiCarlo and Shelby Township, Michigan's Robb Brent.
Of the drivers entered, only Schrader and Kimmel are former ARCA RE/MAX Series race winners at Toledo; and Kimmel is the only former series champion entered.
