Rockingham Race #3
The Carolina 200, the third ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Rockingham Speedway since 1973, is the third of 22 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule.
Entry List Full of Flavor
At present, 43 entries have been received for the Carolina 200 including entries from 9-time series champion Frank Kimmel, NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader, current point leader Justin Lofton, the series' most recent winner Patrick Sheltra and 15-time AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael. Carmichael, driving for Kevin Harvick Inc., is trying to get as much stock seat time as possible.
"Just trying to get as much seat time for me; that's it man; that's what it's all about," said Carmichael. "The more the better; that's the position I am in. It's a very tough track. A lot happens with the tire wear. It's very rough, so a lot of moving parts no doubt; but that's what gives this place character. I think it's going to be a long race for sure and I think just patience, patience will prevail."
Sensational Rookie Class Solid/Penske Racing's Parker Kligerman Leads
One of the most solid standout rookie classes in recent memory will add a good bit of flavor to the entry list. Penske Racing development driver Parker Kligerman leads the Rookie of the Year Standings headed to Rockingham. The 18-year-old Westport, Connecticut driver is also second in overall championship points. Kligerman, who has just four career series starts, has not finished out of the top10. Kligerman is coming off a career-best 3rd place finish at Salem.
Other rookies entered include three from Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) including Greenville, North Carolina's Craig Goess, New York, New York's Tim George, Jr. and Fort Frances, Ontario's Steve Arpin. Point leader Lofton is also part of the ESR 4-car team. Goess is currently 6th in overall championship points while George is 9th. Arpin is currently 13th in championship points.
Brent Brevak Makes ARCA Debut
Brent Brevak, the son of 1990 ARCA RE/MAX Series driving champion Bob Brevak, has filed an entry for the Carolina 200. Brevak currently competes in the ASA North Series for Brevak Racing. Bob Brevak, who also finished second in ARCA RE/MAX Series points in 1989, won 5 ARCA races during his career.
