Pocono, Race #7
The Pocono ARCA 200, the 48th ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Pocono since 1983, is the 7th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. However, the first ARCA race at Pocono was in 1969 on the now defunct ¾-mile oval won by Bobby Watson in a Dodge.
Logano Looking For Seat-Time in Pocono ARCA 200
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Joey Logano has filed an entry for the Pocono ARCA 200. In search of seat-time for the next-day Cup Pocono 500, Logano will make his first start at Pocono in the ARCA race. In three career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts, Logano has one victory at Rockingham Speedway and two second place finishes at Talladega and Daytona.
Veterans Kimmel, Gerhart Teach the Pocono Trade
Local favorite/veteran Bobby Gerhart stands to make his 40th career ARCA start at Pocono whereas Kimmel is on track to make his 33rd. Kimmel has three wins at Pocono in 1999, 2005 and 2006. Gerhart has 23 top-10 finishes but no victories. Gerhart's career-best Pocono finish was 3rd in 2004.
High Schooler, Rookie Parker Kligerman Racing His Way To Senior Prom
Leading Rookie of the Year contender Parker Kligerman, a development driver for Penske Racing, is the most recent winner on tour with his victory at Toledo Speedway in mid-May. Kligerman is, this week, finishing up his senior year on high school in West Port, Connecticut. Following the conclusion of the Pocono ARCA 200, Kligerman plans to drive straight to Westport to attend his senior prom later that same night. The 18-year-old rookie, who has 6 top-10 finishes in 7 career starts, is leading the Rookie of the Year standings, and is currently 2nd in overall championship points.
Eddie Sharp Fields Four - Three are Rookies
Eddie Sharp Racing, who fielded cars for Scott Speed and Michael McDowell, has four teams entered, three of which have rookies driving. Those rookies include Greenville, North Carolina's Craig Goess, New York, New York's Tim George, Jr. and Fort Frances, Ontario's Steve Arpin. Goess and George are 7th and 8th in points respectively. Arpin is 10th. The 4th seat in the ESR stable is occupied by Westmorland, California's Justin Lofton, who competed fulltime on the tour in 2008. Lofton is the current point leader headed to Pocono.
Joey Coulter is yet another up and coming rookie to be reckoned with. Coulter, after finishing a career-best 7th at Toledo and 8th at Talladega, moved to 9th in championship points. Coulter, also 18, is from Miami Springs, Florida and is crew chiefed by NASCAR veteran Harold Holly.
Other rookies entered include Shelby Township, Michigan's Robb Brent, Smolan, Kansas's Jeremy Petty, Richwood, Ohio's Zachary Gibson, Humble, Texas's Stephan McCurley in the American Screen-Porter Glass-Royal Purple Chevrolet, and Westlake, Louisiana's Mikey Kile entered in a no. 29 Brad Keselowski Racing Chevrolet.
5 Pennsylvanians Entered
Lebanon PA's Bobby Gerhart (Lebanon PA) highlights the list of Pennsylvanians entered for the race. Other Pennsylvanians include Kevin Belmont (Langhorne PA), Brian Kaltreider (Reading PA), Kyle Martel (Lebanon PA) and local favorite Chase Mattioli from Long Pond PA. Mattioli is the grandson of Pocono Patriarchs' Drs. Joe & Rose Mattioli.
Car Owner Battle Extremely Tight
Jessica Sharp, car owner for Justin Lofton, leads the over car owner points by just 5 points over Win-Tron Racing. Win Tron Racing, based in Lakeville, Minnesota, a co-ownership between 3-time ASA champ Kevin Cywinski and Nate Thiesse, has utilized three different drivers so far in 2009. Those drives include James Buescher (winner at Daytona and Kentucky), Chris Bires and Matt Merrell. Merrell, who is schedule to drive in this Saturday's Pocono ARCA 200, finished a career-best fifth at Toledo in mid-May.

Two female drivers have entered the Pocono ARCA 200: Daytona Beach, Florida's Alli Owens in the no. 19 ElectrifyingCareers.com Toyota and Phoenix, Arizona's Gabi DiCarlo in the no. 90 Great Clips Toyota.
