NOTES OF INTEREST:
Mansfield, Race #9
The Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200, the inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Mansfield Motorsports Park, is the 9th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The event is named in honor of the late Tim Richmond, who won the 1981 Daytona ARCA 200 before launching his successful NASCAR career. The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will be joining the ARCA RE/MAX Series event for a same-day double-header.
From High School Graduation to Mansfield, Point Leader Parker Kligerman on the March
Parker Kligerman, a development driver for Penske Racing, spent the weekend between his Senior Prom at Staples High School in Westport, Conn., and high school final exams winning the Racing for Wildlife 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Michigan Int'l Speedway last Friday. It was Kligerman's second win of the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series and seventh top-10 finish in eight starts this season. The 18-year-old rookie sensation also reclaimed the point lead over Justin Lofton.
As a rookie in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Kligerman has not previously competed at a majority of the ARCA RE/MAX Series host racetracks. He recently explained his reasoning for succeeding in new environments in his high school speech class.
"This is all about expectations," said Kligerman. "I just gave a speech in my high school speech class about this. When I head into a race weekend I don't know anything about the track or the car so I really don't have any expectations about how I am going to do or how the weekend will turn out. That is how I have been able to do so well."
Still Tight Points Battle Headed to Mansfield
Despite Justin Lofton's disappointing 30th place finish at Michigan, the Westmorland, California driver trails point leader Kligerman by just 45 points headed to Mansfield. Outside of Michigan, Lofton, driver of the Eddie Sharp Racing Lofton Cattle Toyota, is off to a phenomenal start in 2009 with one win (Talladega), four runner-up finishes and a third after the first 8 races.
Eddie Sharp Fields Four - Three are Rookies
Eddie Sharp Racing, who fielded cars for Scott Speed ('08) and Michael McDowell ('07), has four teams entered, three of which have rookies driving. Those rookies include Greenville, North Carolina's Craig Goess, New York, New York's Tim George, Jr. and Fort Frances, Ontario's Steve Arpin. Goess is 5th in championship points whereas George and Arpin are 8th and 10th respectively. The 4th seat in the ESR stable is occupied by veteran Justin Lofton.
Role Reversal to Mansfield for Kimmel and Coulter
9-time series champion and 74-time series winner Frank Kimmel has never been to Mansfield Motorsports Park whereas 19-year-old rookie Joey Coulter has raced at Mansfield 3 times in other series in 2007 and 2008. Coulter heads to Mansfield on the strength of 3 consecutive top-10 finishes - 7th at Toledo, 4th at Pocono and 5th at Michigan. Coulter is from Miami Springs, Florida and is crew chiefed by NASCAR veteran Harold Holly.
International Flavor
In addition to a solid line-up of drivers from the United States, there are also three drivers entered from Canada and France in Friday's race. Canada has representation from Steve Arpin, who is from Fort Frances, Ontario and Terry Jones, who is from Amherstburg, Ontario. Michel Disdier, from Nice France, is also entered in the no. 21 Bowsher Motorsports Ford. Disdier also announced a 10-race deal with Bowsher Motorsports in 2009, which started at Kentucky Speedway in May.

Tim Richmond Memorial/Mansfield Motorsports Park Come to Aid of GM Employees
The recent announcement by General Motors that they will be laying off 1300 employees in the Mansfield area will be devastating on many local families. Any person walking up to the ticket window to buy a ticket to the races on race day will be given a $5 discount when they show their GM Factory Employee badge or identification card.
