Bret Holmes (No. 23 Holmes II Excavation Chevrolet) completed all 200 laps in a sixth-place run at the ARCA Pensacola 200 Presented by Inspectra Thermal Solutions to move into a tie atop the S&S Volvo Laps Completed award standings. Holmes is now tied with Travis Braden (No. 27 MatrixCare/Consonus Healthcare Ford) at 285 laps completed so far in the 2019 ARCA Menards Series season after finishing all but one lap at Daytona. Braden finished tenth at Pensacola, one lap down, and was one of seventeen drivers that completed all 86 laps at Daytona.
Both Holmes and Braden are competing for the 2019 ARCA Menards Series championship, so the battle for the S&S Volvo Laps Completed title may go all the way down to the wire at Kansas. Travis Braden is no stranger to that scenario for this award. He led the 2018 standings for nearly the entire season before being caught up in a crash early on at the Kansas finale that handed the 2018 S&S Volvo Laps Completed award to eventual race winner and season champion Sheldon Creed.
Holmes completed every lap at Pensacola in what was a welcome rebound race after a disappointing finish at Daytona. He was involved in a crash while running in the top ten with two to go in that event, ultimately finishing a lap down in 18th place. Holmes ran up in the top five almost all day at Pensacola and came home with what was his first top ten and first lead lap finish since Springfield last August.
Braden finished on the lead lap at Daytona in eighth place but never quite found his footing in Pensacola. He was the 14th-fastest driver in practice and moved up to 13th in General Tire Pole Qualifying. Braden continued to slowly improve over the course of the race, but found himself a lap down during one of the long green flag runs and settled for tenth place with 199 laps completed.
Directly behind Holmes and Braden in the S&S Volvo Laps Completed award standings is Joe Graf Jr. (No. 77 Eat Sleep Race Ford) in third with 281 laps completed. Bounty Rookie Challenge candidate Tommy Vigh Jr. (No. 10 Extreme Kleaner Ford) is fourth with 273 laps completed.
The ARCA Menards Series will next return to Salem Speedway for the first of two 2019 visits on Sunday, April 14. Last year, just 9 cars managed to complete all 200 laps in the spring race while only 8 survived all 200 laps in the fall race.
