PIT BOX: K&N Rolls Into South Boston For Twin 100s

The racing so far in the K&N Pro Series East this season has been so good, why not double the action in one night?

One of the most famed short tracks on the East coast, South Boston Speedway, will host the WhosYourDriver.org Twin 100s on Saturday night, the third and fourth rounds of the 2019 season.

In nine races, nine different winners have graced Victory Lane and two in the past four races going on to win the championship (Harrison Burton, 2017 and Tyler Ankrum, 2018). With no former winners slated to be in Saturday night’s fields, we’re set to increase that already impressive number.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Chase Cabre is perhaps hungrier than ever to grab his first career victory.

After leading 48 laps in Race No. 2 last season at South Boston, Cabre has confidence at the 0.4-mile facility. In four career starts, he has one top five, three top 10s and two poles, statistically making it one of his best tracks. As for this season, the Tampa, Florida, native is coming off a career-best second-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway.Wyd Logo

His Rev Racing teammate Ruben Garcia Jr. has two top 10 finishes at SoBo, but didn’t finish either twin 100 last season due to a crash and mechanical issue, respectively. Garcia will be pulling double duty, as he plans to fly to Mexico to compete in the PEAK Mexico Series event on Sunday afternoon.

RELEASE: Nick Sanchez Ready for K&N Pro Series East Debut At South Boston

After opting to field two full-time cars this season, the organization will field a third car for the first time in 2019 with late model driver Nick Sanchez making his series debut. The 17-year-old has yet to finish outside the top five this season, coming home second this past weekend at Virginia’s Langley Speedway.

Derek Kraus, who won the K&N East season opener at New Smyrna and is currently running for the K&N West championship with Bill McAnally Racing, will be joined by BMR teammate Hailie Deegan in making the trip to South Boston for the first time.

Coming off one of the most dominant weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway in awhile, Rookie of the Year contender Sam Mayer is looking to build upon his momentum. The No. 21 GMS Racing driver broke the BMS track-record and won the pole and led flag-to-flag–all 150 laps–en route to his first career K&N Pro Series win.
