DACONO, Colo. — Hailie Deegan has taken a liking to Colorado National Speedway’s new asphalt surface thus far.
Deegan paced the K&N Pro Series West field, laying down the quickest lap (16.342 seconds) on Saturday afternoon around the .375-mile Colorado oval, coming on her final lap of final practice.
In total, the No. 19 Toyota turned 35 laps in the two sessions, with the final one being cut short due to rain.
“These last couple races we’ve had a new crew chief,” she said. “We’ve been trying to figure out the system, figure out what works with me, what works with him, connect better and get a better setup for both of us. I think we have a really good setup. We’re a couple tenths faster than everybody that went out. I feel very confident in my car, in my abilities, and hopefully we can wrap it up, qualify P1, maybe get another win.”

Deegan’s lap would be quick enough to break the current track record (16.452 seconds), set in 2007 by Brian Ickler. CNS’ new repave is contributing to higher speeds, as many drivers in the garage anticipate the record being broken in qualifying.
Her Bill McAnally Racing teammate, Derek Kraus, (16.517) was second-fastest, with LaSalle, Colorado native Kody Vanderwal (16.578) third, Brittney Zamora (16.617) fourth and Travis Milburn (16.636) fifth.
Matt Levin, John Wood, Todd Souza, Jagger Jones and Trevor Huddleston completed the top 10 quickest speeds.
Jones (56) turned the most laps in both sessions, while Bobby Hillis Jr. (11) ran the least.
