Brad Smith, No. 48 Copraya.com Chevrolet Recap: Madison

After making the six hour trek to Madison International Speedway near Wisconsin’s capital city, Shelby Twp., MI’s Brad Smith finally was able to turn in a good outing on a short track this season. After practicing at 89.21 MPH, the #48 took part in General Tire Qualifying, good enough for 15th at 87.981 MPH…only two and a half seconds off the pole because Smith was taking it easy having already been guaranteed a spot in the Shore Lunch 200!

Smith said of the weekend: “Had a great run. We FINALLY got our short track program back on track. It was our first time since last August we did not overheat and it was a huge relief!”
He continued, “we can finally concentrate on getting faster again. Turns out the issue was with the radiator. Last season, that was our first inclination, but we were told early on by a certain radiator shop that our core was fine. Many dollars, time, and components later, we finally confirmed we were right all along! Unfortunately the perils of a small, underfunded team!”

He concluded, “special thanks to the guys at Superior Radiator at 195, 5413 Grand Ave., in Mt. Clemens for helping us figure it out! We would have run the entire race but had to protect the car until our other short track car is ready to roll!”

Next Saturday is the Day To Day Coffee “150” at the World Wide Technology Center at Gateway. Practice begins at 11:35AM, while final practice takes place at 1:30PM. General Tire Qualifying takes the green at 4:30PM and race time is 6:45PM! All times are CDT and MavTV will be handling the broadcast duties!
