QUALIFYING: Hailie Deegan Earns Top Spot At Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. — What a difference a day makes.

Hailie Deegan’s Friday afternoon consisted of tweaking on her No. 19 Bill McAnally Racing Toyota for the entire 85-minute practice session. She wound up 14th on the speed charts turning 12 laps around the 2.52-mile layout, and was admittedly short on confidence heading into Saturday.

But in group qualifying, Deegan laid down a 91.205 mph lap, quick enough to earn her second pole of the season and fourth of her K&N Pro Series career.

Racing-Reference: Hailie Deegan Career Statistics

“We were off. And I was like ‘dang,’ not to be negative, but I almost counted myself out,” she said. “We went out for qualifying, and it was a decent lap. Maybe we’d be fourth through seventh, good start, keep my nose clean during the race. […] We ended up getting the pole, and I was like ‘how’d that happen?’ because we knocked off like four seconds off our time from yesterday. They definitely got my car figured out. We went over a ton of notes, data, got the setup good and now we’re starting on the pole. I’m a little nervous, but hopefully it’ll be good.”

NASCAR Xfinity Series regulars Noah Gragson (90.896) and Cole Custer (90.890) qualified second and third with Monster Energy Cup Series regular Ryan Preece (90.560) fourth and Jagger Jones (90.426) fifth.

Cup regular Daniel Hemric, championship points leader Derek Kraus, defending winner Will Rodgers, Dale Quarterley and Jim Inglebright rounded out the top 10.
