NEWTON, Iowa. — Sam Mayer backed up his practice speed by putting his No. 21 GMS Racing Chevrolet on the pole for the Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway, his second career K&N Pro Series pole.

The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender and Bristol winner’s 24.501-second circuit came in the final group of qualifying. His other pole came at the aforementioned Bristol, where he led all 150 laps en route to the victory.

Chase Cabre, winner of the last two K&N Pro Series East races (24.547), Ruben Garcia Jr. (24.577), Derek Kraus (24.732) and Max McLaughlin (24.735) completed the top five quickest speeds.
Spencer Davis, Trevor Huddleston, Ty Gibbs, Hailie Deegan and Drew Dollar rounded out the top 10.
Tanner Gray laid down the seventh quickest lap, but crashed his No. 15 DGR-Crosley Toyota in Turns 3 and 4, pounding the inside wall. The team is going to a back-up car.
