PRACTICE: Sam Mayer Quickest In Only Session at ISM

AVONDALE, Ariz. — It doesn’t matter which side of the country he’s on. Sam Mayer is quick.

The 2019 K&N Pro Series East champion was quickest in the only practice session of the afternoon at ISM Raceway, wheeling his GMS Racing machine to a quick lap of 27.345 seconds around the one-mile desert oval.

Mayer finished 19th in his third career Gander Outdoors Truck Series race Friday night at ISM, gaining valuable track experience for Saturday’s Arizona Lottery 100.

Riley Herbst (27.499), Ty Gibbs (27.549), Zane Smith (27.857) and Derek Kraus (27.999) rounded out the top five speeds. Herbst, Gibbs and Smith will be competing in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday, while Kraus (finished 31st (crash) in the Truck race), will clinch the 2019 K&N West championship when the green flag flies.

Kraus’ Bill McAnally Racing teammate Hailie Deegan, Ty Majeski, Corey Heim, Drew Dollar and Brittney Zamora completed the top 10 speeds.

Jack Wood (60) turned the most laps in the 80-minute session.

Group qualifying is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. MDT with the green flag set to fly at 4:15. FansChoice.TV will have live coverage of the season finale.
