AVONDALE, Ariz. — Ty Gibbs was quickest throughout the two-hour ARCA Menards Series morning practice session Friday in preparation for this evening’s General Tire 150 at Phoenix Raceway.
Gibbs’s No. 18 Monster/Terrible Herbst/Orca Toyota turned a 27.037-second (133.151 mph) lap on the 1-mile oval. He ran a total of 49 laps, which was the ninth-most for a driver in the session.
Gibbs’ won the West finale at Phoenix last year.

Daytona winner Michael Self, who returned to Phoenix Raceway for the first time since 2013, put down a 27.151 (132.592) lap, which was good enough for second quickest. Self’s Venturini teammate Chandler Smith (27.462/131.090) was third quickest, followed by Sam Mayer and Drew Dollar.

Jesse Love, Nick Sanchez, Thad Moffitt, Hailie Deegan and Zane Smith rounded out the top 10.
The race also serves as the first round of the 10-race Sioux Chief Showdown.
Qualifying for the General Tire 150 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. MST. The green flag for the 150-lap race is scheduled for 5 p.m. MST on FS1 and MRN.
