TOLEDO, Ohio – Sam Mayer continues to be the driver setting the pace in the ARCA Menards Series East.
The 16-year-old from Franklin, Wisconsin, earned the General Tire Pole Award Saturday in qualifying for the evening’s Herr’s Potato Chips 200 Presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway.
It is the fifth career pole for Mayer across the ARCA Menards, ARCA Menards East and ARCA Menards West series. The defending East champion, Mayer opened 2020 with a win at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway and then won the West opener from the pole at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Mayer drove the No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet around the half-mile in 16.014 seconds (112.402 mph).
He bumped Chase Cabre off the top spot. Cabre had the provisional pole with a lap of 16.112 (111.718) in the No. 4 Max Siegel Inc/Eibach Toyota for Rev Racing before Mayer went out.

Ty Gibbs was third fastest at 16.127 (111.676). Taylor Gray, making his series’ debut, qualified fourth and Giovanni Bromante was fifth.
Max McLauglin qualified sixth, followed by Bret Holmes and Nick Sanchez. Mason Diaz, who had the fastest lap in practice and went out last in qualifying, was ninth quick. Parker Retzlaff rounded out the top 10.
The Herr’s Potato Chips 200 Presented by Federated Car Care is slated to take the green flag at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the race live and for free through Trackpass on NBC Gold.
