PIT BOX: Quick Turnaround To Pocono

After more than three months away from the track, the competitors of the ARCA Menards Series will have a far quicker turnaround this week.

Just six days after returning to racing at the high-banked half-mile to the 2.66-mile high speed Talladega SuperSpeedway, they’ll be back at it Friday at the 2.5-mile, three-turn Pocono Raceway.

The championship chase heads to Pennsylvania for the General Tire #ANYWHEREISPOSSIBLE 200 at Pocono, which will air live on FS1.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Venturini Motorsports put on an impressive display at Talladega, with Drew Dollar edging teammate Ryan Repko for the win and giving the organization its third different winner in three races this season.

Now the attention turns to Pocono, where the team has run well, but where that hasn’t always translated into success.

Christian Eckes drove the No. 15 for Venturini for the win last July, but it was the the team’s first win there since June of 2012. In the interim span of 14 races, they collected 12 top fives but were kept out of Victory Lane.

Venturini’s Michael Self has a pair of top fives in three starts at the track, and carries an 11-point lead over Dollar. Chandler Smith, who won at Phoenix, returns to the No. 20 and Dollar will look to make it back-to-back wins.

Hailie Deegan, who was seventh at Pocono in her debut there last May, is just three points back of Dollar after collecting her third straight top 10 to start the season.

“Pocono is a fun track,” Deegan said. “It’s really hard to get your car set up and good for every single corner. I’ve been on the simulator a lot and getting a lot of practice. I’ve been trying a lot of different stuff seeing what I’m comfortable with and seeing what we want to baseline with since we’re not getting much time on the track.

“It’s going to be fun.”

Bret Holmes won as a car owner with Grant Enfinger in June of 2016, and is sitting in fourth after a strong third-place run at Talladega. It was Holmes’ second straight podium — he was third in the ARCA Menards Series East race the previous weekend at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway.

After sitting out Talladega, Ty Gibbs returns to the No. 18 Monster/Terrible Herbst/ORCA Toyota. Gibbs won in the car at Toledo and Riley Herbst nearly won in it at Talladega. Todd Gilliland (July) and Herbst (May) were both runner-up at Ponoco last July in the No. 18.
