PIT BOX: Bruncati Pair Heads Home To Irwindale

Blaine Perkins earned first race win in the ARCA Menards Series West on Saturday, and couldn’t pick a better venue to head to next.

Trevor Huddleston rebounded from mechanical issues in the first of two races at Utah Motorsports Campus to salvage his day, and, likewise, couldn’t ask for a better place to go next.

The two Sunrise Ford Racing teammates for car owner Bob Bruncati will be heading "home" as the series turns its attention to southern California’s Irwindale Speedway on Saturday. The ENEOS 125 presented by NAPA Auto Parts will be the fourth race of the ARCA Menards Series, and the first time the half-mile track will host ARCA.

The event will limited to essential race personnel only and no spectators per state and local guidelines.

Fans can watch the race live through Trackpass on NBC Gold at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.

Huddleston ended up in the wall at the end of last year’s event and had to have his car towed to Victory Lane. But he couldn’t stop smiling.Irwindale Speedway Logo Copy

The 24-year-old from Agoura Hills, California, overcame transmission problems the entire race to nip Tanner Gray at the finish line by .03 seconds and score his first career West win. The victory came at the premier California facility that his father, Tim, bought in 2017.

"We’ve been preparing for this moment for a long time. I know this track hopefully better than anybody," Trevor Huddleston said after last year’s race. "I’ve been raised here. To get this win means so much."

Trevor Huddleston has also won three track championships (2015-17) at Irwindale Speedway in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. He also won the LKQ Pick Your Parts Late Model opener this year.

While Huddleston is piloting the No. 6 Sunrise Ford/Lucas Oil/Eibach Springs Ford this year, his replacement in the No. 9 Four Star Fruits/Sunrise Ford Ford, Perkins, is equally as excited to get back to Irwindale.

After the 20-year-old from Bakersfield collected up his first two career General Tire Pole Awards and first race win, he heads to the track where he won four times last year en route to the track’s Late Model championship.

Utah’s other race winner, Jesse Love, arrives in southern California with the championship points lead by virtue of a win and a pair of runner-up finishes in the first three races. His Bill McAnally Racing teammate Lawless Alan is two years removed from winning Irwindale’s Late Model crown. And BMR has a history of success in the West there. Prior to last year, BMR had won the last five West races at Irwindale, and has 13 wins there by seven different drivers since the track opened in 1999.
