KANSAS CITY, Ks. — Bret Holmes is searching for his first win Friday night at Kansas Speedway, and he got the day off to a fast start.
The 23-year-old from Munford, Alabama, posted the fastest lap for the 1-hour practice session in advance of the Dawn 150.
Holmes’ No. 23 Holmes II Excavation Chevrolet ran a lap of 31.669 seconds (170.514 mph) around the 1.5-mile tri-oval.

Riley Herbst was second fastest at 31.910 (169.226). Herbst will start on the pole as the race will be run without a qualifying sess1ion and the field was set by owner’s points.
Tanner Gray was third fastest in practice at 32.059 (168.439), followed by Hailie Deegan and Ryan Repko.
Michael Self, who will start on the front row alongside Herbst, was sixth quick. Thad Moffitt, Drew Dollar, Derek Griffith and Jason Kitzmiller rounded out the top 10.
The Dawn 150 is scheduled to take the green flag at 10 p.m. ET, following the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race. The ARCA Menards Series race will air live on
