TOLEDO, Ohio — Following a unique qualifying format, both Chandler Smith and Ty Gibbs ended Friday afternoon’s session with a General Tire Pole Award.
After impending weather forced ARCA Racing and Toledo Speedway officials to move the start time to Saturday’s race to noon and cancel qualifying, Friday’s two laps of qualifying took on added importance.
The first lap would set the field for Friday’s Menards.com 200 presented by SPxE (8 p.m. ET).
The second would set the lineup for Saturday’s Menards 200 presented by Crosley Brands.
Smith ran a 15.999-second (112.507 mph) first lap in the No. 20 JBL Audio Toyota around the half-mile on his first lap to clinch his 10th career General Tire Pole Award. He’ll start Friday night’s race on the front row with Gibbs on the outside. Gibbs ran a 16.037 (112.240) first lap.
