MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Ty Gibbs needs to finish ahead of Sam Mayer to have a shot at overtaking him for the Sioux Chief Showdown championship.
Gibbs got his Saturday started in the right direction, leading practice at Memphis International Speedway for Saturday evening’s Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200.
Gibbs’ No. 18 Monster/Terrible Herbst/Oracle Toyota had the top lap of 23.435 seconds (115.212 mph).

Mayer was second quick, though, at 23.474 (115.021). Mayer leads Gibbs by six points heading into the Sioux Chief Showdown finale.
Chander Smith was third fastest at 23.478 (115.001), followed by Bret Holmes and Hailie Deegan.
Thad Moffitt, Drew Dollard, Taylor Gray, Michael Self and Kris Wright rounded out the top 10.
Qualifying for the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the green flag at 6 p.m. The race will air on MAVTV and stream on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
