SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Will Kimmel appeared as though he would end Sunday morning’s practice session with the fastest lap time on the Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Then Corey Heim stole the top spot late in the 30-minute ARCA Menards Series session.
Heim logged a lap time of 35.791 seconds (100.584 mph) in his No. 20 Craftsman Toyota to lead practice for the Illinois Truck & Equipment Allen Crowe 100.

Kimmel’s best lap time was 35.824 seconds (100.491 mph), just .033 off Heim’s pace on the one-mile dirt track.
Ryan Unzicker was third fastest with a lap time of 35.979 seconds (100.058), followed by Ty Gibbs and Kelly Kovski.
Michael Self, Hailie Deegan, Bret Holmes, Taylor Gray and Drew Dollar rounded out the top 10. Holmes leads Self in the championship by two points heading into the penultimate race of the season.
Qualifying for the Illinois Truck & Equipment Allen Crowe 100 is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. CT, and the green flag for the race is scheduled to wave at 2 p.m. The race will air on MAVTV and stream on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
