Rajah Caruth’s path to a career as a stock car driver was non-traditional in that he did not grow up racing. At least, he did not grow up racing cars in a literal sense.
The 18-year-old instead honed his craft virtually, competing in online simulation races on iRacing, among other platforms.
He did not start racing real cars on real tracks until he was 16, and the young driver from Washington, D.C., is already competing for top-five finishes in the ARCA Menards Series East.
NASCAR and Rev Racing announced in February that Caruth, as part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Development Program, would compete in the ARCA Menards Series East while also continuing to race in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series.
An early incident contributed to a disappointing 11th-place finish in his first ARCA Menards race at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway, but Caruth proved his skill with a fourth-place run at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, a few weeks later.
We caught up with Caruth as he awaits his next chance to race in the ARCA Menards Series East, which will come May 8 in the Music City 200 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
In the video below, Caruth discusses his path to racing, what he expects from this season and how he would like his career to progress.
