QUALIFYING: Corey Heim Tops Chart At Mid-Ohio For First General Tire Pole Of Career

LEXINGTON, Ohio — For the majority of Friday afternoon’s practice/qualifying session at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, Ty Gibbs appeared to be on his way to starting his sixth consecutive ARCA Menards Series race on the pole.

Then, on his last lap of the 45-minute session, Corey Heim stole the General Tire Pole Award from his rival in the series championship chase.

Driving the No. 20 Craftsman Toyota, Heim logged a top lap time of 87.877 seconds to earn the first General Tire Pole Award of his career ahead of the evening’s Dawn 150, the seventh ARCA Menards Series race of the season and Round 2 of the 2021 Sioux Chief Showdown.

Gibbs, who is second to Heim in championship points despite leading the series with four wins this season, qualified second with a lap time of 88.504 seconds at the 13-turn, 2.258-mile road course.

Brandon Jones, the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular who is running Friday’s Dawn 150 for Venturini Motorsports, qualified third with a lap time of 88.648 seconds.

Both Gibbs and Jones are entered in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Mid-Ohio.

Kris Wright (88.702 seconds) and Nick Sanchez (89.336 seconds) rounded out the top five in qualifying.

Drew Dollar, Austin Hill, Stanton Barret, Thad Moffitt and Russ Lane rounded out the top 10.

Friday evening’s Dawn 150 is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET and broadcast live on FS1 with live streaming available on Fox Sports Go.

A radio broadcast of Friday’s race at Mid-Ohio will be available on MRN and SiriusXM (XM channel 391, online channel 981).
