Track Profile: Colorado National Speedway

Those who reside at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and happen to enjoy stock car racing on a short track have a gem in Colorado National Speedway.

Located in Dacono, Colorado, a little more than 20 miles north of downtown Denver, the asphalt oval’s 0.375-mile length promotes physical racing, and its progressive banking in the corners promotes speed. It’s an ideal combination for a bullring.

This is part of the reason Colorado National is such a popular stop on the ARCA Menards Series West schedule. The track has hosted 18 West Series races dating back to 1995.

Below is everything to know about the venue.

Gene and Gerda Heffley founded Colorado National Speedway in 1965 in an effort to bring short track racing to the region. Almost six decades later, the venue still hosts some of the best local racing in the country in addition to multiple national touring series.

What’s now the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, which began in 1995, raced at Colorado National three times in the series’ first three years through 1997. The year 1995 also saw the first West Series race at Colorado National.

Eight of the 18 West Series races contested at Colorado National have been won by drivers representing Bill McAnally Racing, a powerhouse in the series. That includes all three wins for Chris Eggleston, who has the most victories at the track in the series. In 2017, when Eggleston won his second consecutive race at Colorado, BMR swept the podium.

BMR’s recent success at Colorado National also includes Hailie Deegan’s dramatic victory in 2019, when she bumped her teammate Derek Kraus out of the way in overtime to grab her second West Series victory of that season and third of her career.

A current member of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, Colorado National’s weekly local racing divisions include the Mountain States Fire Protection Super Late Models, MATCO Tools Pro Trucks, Galitz Transportation Late Models, SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds, Elite Diesel Service Figure Eight Stock Cars, TBK Bank Super Stocks, Rock ‘N’ Roll Brewery Pure Stocks, AC Transmission Legends Cars, Bandoleros, Witthar Racing Trains, DEMOX and Supermoto bikes.

The track’s weekly racing schedule begins in May and runs through early October.
