QUALIFYING: Ty Gibbs wins General Tire Pole Award for season-finale at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Ty Gibbs only needs to take the green flag Saturday night at Kansas Speedway to clinch the 2021 ARCA Menards Series championship.

And he will lead the field to that green flag.

The driver of the No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing paced the field in Saturday afternoon’s 20-minute qualifying session ahead of the evening’s Reese’s 150 with a top lap time of 30.575 seconds (176.615 mph).

It marks Gibbs’ 11th General Tire Pole Award of the season. Including races he started on the pole based on points, Gibbs will end his championship season having led the field to green 15 times in 20 events.

Corey Heim, the driver who pushed Gibbs in the championship hunt this season, fittingly will join his rival on the front row to start the season-finale at Kansas. Heim qualified second with a lap time of 30.674 seconds (176.045 mph).

Nick Sanchez, Drew Dollar and JP Bergeron rounded out the top five in qualifying.

Saturday evening’s Reese’s 150 is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET. The ARCA Menards Series’ season-finale will broadcast live on MAVTV Motorsports Network with a live stream available on NBC Sports Gold’s TrackPass.

A radio broadcast of Saturday night’s race will be available on MRN and SiriusXM (XM channel 391, online channel 981).
