Drivers tend to love racing at Kansas Speedway, so for them, the track’s status on the ARCA Menards Series schedule is a welcome sight.

In 2022, the 1.5-mile speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, is the only track the series visits twice.

From the time the track opened in 2001 to Christian Eckes’ win in 2019, the ARCA Menards Series raced at Kansas once per season. That expanded to two races in 2020, last year and this year.

Frank Kimmel has the most Kansas wins in ARCA Menards Series history with three (2002, 2006, 2013). Alex Bowman won back-to-back Kansas races in 2011-12. Nobody else has more than one win at this particular track in the ARCA Menards Series.

Kimmel also has one win at Kansas in what’s now the ARCA Menards Series West, which has raced at the track just twice (2001 and 2002).

The idea of Kansas Speedway was conceived in the mid-1990s, when International Speedway Corporation was looking to build a track in the midwest region. Kansas City quickly became the most attractive option.

Construction began in 1999, and after some delays, it was completed in the early months of 2001 … just in time for the ARCA Menards Series’ arrival.

On June 2, 2001, the Kansas 100 for what was then the NASCAR Winston West Series and what’s now the ARCA Menards Series West became the first race hosted by Kansas Speedway. Kimmel was the winner.

The next day, the BPU 200 for what was then the ARCA Re/Max Series (now the ARCA Menards Series) became the first ARCA race at Kansas Speedway. Jason Jarrett, the son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett, picked up his first of two career ARCA Menards Series wins that day.

Kansas Speedway has undergone a series of changes since it was built. Lights were installed in 2011, and that year’s ARCA race (Kansas Lottery 98.9 won by Alex Bowman) was the first event at Kansas to run at night.

The track also received new pavement and the addition of variable banking in 2012.
