PIT BOX: Multiple drivers set for ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series double duty at Mid-Ohio

For just the fourth time in ARCA Menards Series history, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio will welcome the series for the running of the Zinsser SmartCoat 150 this Friday afternoon (6 p.m. ET on FS1/Fox Sports App).

The eighth race of the 2023 ARCA Menards Series season doubles as the first of two road-course events on the series schedule. It will be the 28th road-course event in series history dating back to the first ARCA Menards Series road-course race at Meadowdale International Raceway in 1959.

The first ARCA Menards Series event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course took place in 1965, with Jack Bowsher earning a trip to Victory Lane. The series didn’t return again until 2021, with Ty Gibbs laying claim to the trophy. Last year, Taylor Gray survived wet condition on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile road course to pick up his second ARCA Menards Series victory.

Tickets to Friday’s Zinsser SmartCoat 150 are available here. Below is everything to know about the event.

The first road-course race of the ARCA Menards Series season is a companion event with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which will put on the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 on Saturday, July 8.

Per usual, that means multiple drivers will compete in both Friday’s Zinsser SmartCoat 150 and Saturday’s Truck Series race.

Six drivers entered in Friday’s ARCA Menards Series race — Dean Thompson, William Sawalich, Tyler Ankrum, Dale Quarterley, Jack Wood and Conner Jones — will also run with the Truck Series on Saturday.

Ankrum, the Hattori Racing Truck Series regular, will wheel a No. 61 Toyota on Friday as a method of preparation for Saturday’s race. The Zinnser SmartCoat 150 will mark Ankrum’s second ARCA Menards Series start; he finished 22nd driving for Bruce Cook in an ARCA race at Watkins Glen International in 2021.

Sawalich, the ARCA rookie who leads the ARCA Menards Series East points standings as he prepares for his fourth ARCA Menards Series (national) start, will make his second Truck Series start Saturday after finishing ninth in his debut at Martinsville Speedway in April.

A road-course specialist, Quarterley also will make his second Truck Series start Saturday after competing in Friday’s ARCA race. Quarterley finished 28th in his Truck Series debut at Circuit of the Americas in March.

Two-time West Series race winner and one-time ARCA national race winner Landen Lewis is not entered in Friday’s ARCA field, but he will make his Truck Series debut Saturday at Mid-Ohio.

All of those drivers on Friday will compete against a stacked field of ARCA Menards Series regulars, including championship points leader Jesse Love, winner of four of the last five ARCA Menards Series races.

Joining Love in the stable of Venturini Motorsports entries Friday will be Jones, Thompson and East/West Series regular Sean Hingorani.

Frankie Muniz, who enters the eighth race of the ARCA Menards Series season second in championship points, will make his ARCA road-course debut Friday at Mid-Ohio driving for Rette Jones Racing. As will Andres Perez de Lara, the rookie Rev Racing driver who ranks third in championship points.
