PIT BOX: Tight West Series championship fight heads to Shasta Speedway

After consecutive events at Irwindale Speedway earlier this month, ARCA Menards Series West drivers and teams head to the Northern California for Saturday’s Shasta 150 at Shasta Speedway (8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET on FloRacing).

The Shasta 150 marks the 16th time the West Series will compete at the 0.375-mile oval located in Anderson, California. The series inaugural event at the track took place in 1967 when Scotty Cain visited Victory Lane.

The series has made infrequent visits in the years since, with competitors like Jimmy Insolo, Bill Schmitt, Derrike Cope, Bill Sedgwick, Rick Carelli and Chris Eggleston among those to score wins at the facility. Last year, Sean Hingorani led the final 39 laps on his way to his one of his four victories during his 2023 championship season.

Tickets to the Shasta 150 are available here. Below is everything you need to know about Saturday’s race.

Shasta1502024 4Two wins in three days earlier this month at Irwindale Speedway has catapulted Sean Hingorani to the ARCA Menards Series West championship lead. Now all he has to do is keep it.

He’ll try to do that this weekend at Shasta Speedway, where he is the defending race winner. The challenge is Hingorani won’t be driving for Venturini Motorsports this weekend at Shasta. Instead, he’ll be in the No. 5 entry for team owner Jerry Pitts, the same car Hingorani during the two road course events earlier this year.

Tyler Reif, who entered Irwindale the championship leader, will hope to regain his position at the top of the standings with a strong run in the No. 13 Toyota for Central Coast Racing. He’s still looking for his first win of the 2024 campaign.

Trevor Huddleston is also expected to be a threat this weekend at Shasta. He led more than 100 laps and finished second to Hingorani last season. Huddleston will pilot his usual No. 50 Ford out of the High Point Racing stable.

Other notable entrants include Jack Wood, Jaron Giannini, Eric Johnson Jr., Todd Souza and Nick Joanides.
