The ARCA Menards Series will celebrate Labor Day weekend by visiting the second dirt track on its schedule: the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Built in 1948, the one-mile dirt oval has long been a staple for both open-wheel and stock-car racing in the United States by hosting events for the USAC Silver Crown Series and the ARCA Menards Series. DuQuoin officially became a staple on the ARCA Menards Series calendar during the 1980s following a brief stint at the complex from 1957-59.
The list of names who have won at DuQuoin is a prestigious one consisting of ARCA Menards Series legends and competitors who would later thrive in NASCAR. That group includes Dean Roper, Bob Keselowski, Frank Kimmel, Grant Enfinger, Ken Schrader and NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart.
Joining the long list of winners at DuQuoin will require drivers to master the facility’s unique layout under the lights Sunday evening. A strong group of competitors, both young and experienced, are embracing the challenges offered by DuQuoin with the goal of making their own mark on the track’s proud history.
Tickets to the Southern Illinois 100 can be purchased here. Below is everything to know ahead of Sunday evening’s race at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Southern Illinois 100: What to watch for
The goal for William Sawalich in Sunday evening’s Southern Illinois 100 is a simple one: Maintain his winning ways.
A $20,000 paycheck awaits Sawalich if he can bring home another victory at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds by virtue of the Performance Seed Dirt Double. He became eligible for this bonus by putting together a dominant day in the Springfield ARCA 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Aug. 18.
Among the drivers looking to disrupt Sawalich’s efficient 2024 campaign is Brent Crews, who leads the five-car armada Venturini Motorsports is bringing to DuQuoin. Crews nearly claimed the Performance Seed Dirt Double in 2023 but had to settle for second at DuQuoin after his teammate Jesse Love held on for the win.
Joining Crews on the Venturini Motorsports driver roster for DuQuoin is dirt standout Taylor Reimer in her third career ARCA Menards Series start. Reimer made history alongside Isabella Robusto at the Springfield Mile, as it was the first time two women placed inside the top three in the same ARCA Menards Series event.
Other notable names set to compete at DuQuoin on Sunday evening include Will Kimmel, Kelly Kovski, Sean Corr, Dale Quarterley, Brayton Laster and Eric Caudell, among others.
The complete entry list for the Southern Illinois 100 will be released later this week.
