PIT BOX: Toledo arrives with Rev Racing set to take second ARCA Menards Series championship in three years

After 19 grueling races across 18 different venues, the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season will conclude this weekend at Toledo Speedway.

Since hosting its first race for the ARCA Menards Series back in 1963, Toledo has occasionally served as the season finale date. Saturday’s Owens Corning 200 will be the fourth consecutive year the ARCA Menards Series championship has been decided at Toledo and the seventh time overall.

Many iconic moments in ARCA Menards Series history have taken place at Toledo, including the famous 2008 championship battle that culminated with Justin Allgaier prevailing over Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Scott Speed. Recently, Sammy Smith and Jesse Love engaged in an intense battle for the win in 2022, which saw Smith take the checkered flag.

There is not much ambiguity surrounding the ARCA Menards Series title fight entering the Owens Corning 200. Andres Perez holds a 35-point advantage over his Rev Racing teammate Lavar Scott, both of whom look to end their respective 2024 campaigns with a breakthrough ARCA Menards Series win.

Perez likely will simply need to start Saturday’s race to clinch Rev Racing’s second ARCA Menards Series championship in three years.

Standing in the way of a potential Andres Perez or Lavar Scott victory on Saturday is William Sawalich, the most dominant driver on the ARCA Menards Series platform in 2024.

No driver has won more races this year than Sawalich, who has amassed 10 victories between the three ARCA Menards Series divisions, including seven on the national side. Sawalich’s accomplishments also include an ARCA Menards Series East title, which he achieved at Bristol Motor Speedway following misfortune to rival Connor Zilisch.

Along with the two Rev Racing drivers, Sawalich will still have plenty of talented competitors to deal with if he wants one more ARCA Menards Series national win. This includes the five-car armada of Venturini Motorsports, headlined by talented prospects in Brent Crews and Gio Ruggiero.

Crews brings his versatile background to Venturini’s No. 55 Mobil 1 Toyota with victories in both dirt and road racing. The Owens Corning 200 presents an ideal opportunity for Crews to add an ARCA Menards Series victory on pavement to his resume after previously prevailing at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Ruggiero, who is fresh off his intermediate track debut at Kansas Speedway, was the only driver besides Sawalich and Zilisch to win in the East Series this year. Back in his short track element for Saturday, Ruggiero looks to join Crews, Gus Dean and Jake Finch as winners for Venturini Motorsports this year.

Other names set to compete at Toledo on Saturday include Kris Wright, Toni Breidinger, Christian Rose, Amber Balcaen, Michael Maples, Alex Clubb and Becca Monopoli, among others.

The complete entry list for the Owens Cornng 200 will be released later this week.
