DuQuoin winner Schrader returns to Salem

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 9, 2013) - It's been more than four years since Ken Schrader has turned a lap at Salem Speedway, but that all changes when the Fenton, Missouri veteran comes to town for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care under the lights Saturday night, September 14.

Schrader, fresh off his victory in Monday's Southern Illinois ARCA 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds mile dirt, has filed an entry in his own No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet for ARCA's 94th appearance at Salem.

"It's been way too long since I've raced at Salem," Schrader said.

"We usually go to watch every year when we have a car in the show, but, I have to tell you, it's hard to sit there and watch. Salem's the kind of track where you want to be in the driver's seat. Racing at Salem is its own deal - it's a heck of a show, at least from where I'm sitting."

Although the last time Schrader actually sat in an ARCA car and raced at Salem was in April of 2009, finishing fifth. Schrader has one win at Salem in 1999.

"I've always loved the place; I don't know anyone who doesn't. When you look at the history behind it and all the tradition that comes with Salem, it's just hard to keep passing up."

Schrader made ARCA headlines back in May of this year when he became the oldest winner in ARCA history at Toledo Speedway. The 58-year-old-driver broke his own record with his win at DuQuoin, his 17th career ARCA victory in his 63rd career start.

"Salem is a special place. There are just not too many tracks like it left that have the banks, the speed, the character. It's different than just another circle, especially when you consider all the people who have raced there over the years.

"It really is about the tradition. You can build a new race track, but you just can't build that tradition that fast."

Schrader also won at Salem as a car owner in last year's Fall Classic with Tom Hessert driving.

Practice for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic is scheduled from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., with a final practice to follow from 1:45 to 2:30.
