Momentum on Mitchell's side headed to Kansas

(MOORESVILLE, N.C. - October 1, 2013) - Mason Mitchell and Empire Racing, on the heels of a career-best second place finish at Kentucky Speedway, are heading to Kansas Speedway with momentum and a can-win attitude.

Since joining forces at Pocono Raceway in August, Mitchell and Empire Racing have been impressive to say the least, earning eight straight top-10 finishes.

"This is our last shot; we have nothing to lose," said Mitchell. "We will do anything to win Friday night."

Last year, Mitchell made his 1.5-mile debut at Kansas, qualifying 10th and finishing a solid seventh.

"With the new surface (at Kansas), harder tire and tapered spacer it forces you to drive the cars on the edge and keep the speed up. It's really easy to go over the edge."

Since joining forces with Empire Racing, Mitchell has been steadily climbing the ranks.mitchellcandidsalem13.jpg

"I feel like we could be challenging Frank for the title if we ran with Empire Racing the whole season. The stats show that we would be second in points, 10 behind Frank."

Kansas V.S. Kentucky: "At Kentucky we could move around and run multiple grooves. Kansas is a fairly one groove track but we could see the outside come in by the end of the race."

Top 10 Streak: Mitchell's top-10 streak since signing up with Empire Racing includes three top-five finishes and two consecutive Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell qualifying track records at Berlin Raceway and the Illinois State Fairgrounds mile dirt, his first attempt on dirt. Mitchell has also gained the second most championship points (1455) since joining Empire Racing.

Chassis: Mitchell will drive chassis No. 73 at Kansas, which most recently raced at Kentucky Speedway two weeks ago finishing second. Chassis 73 has raced 13 times with a best finish of second at Kentucky.
