ARCA RE/MAX Fields Reflect Future Cup Fields; KY Field Full

SPARTA KY (7-13-07) - If you're looking for a snapshot of what the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series will look like in the future, take a hard look at the development drivers who are currently competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. While the bulk of the Cup Series teams will be busy at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, many will also be in full force at Kentucky Speedway via the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

At present, eight Cup teams, one Busch Series team and a two-car Dodge Development effort are among the 54 entrants for Friday night's ARCA RE/MAX Series WLWT Channel 5-150 under the lights on the 1.5-mile Sparta, Kentucky speedplant.

Driver Development Teams Take 3 at Kentucky: In the last three events at Kentucky, all winners have been from driver development teams. They include Steve Wallace/May of 2006 (Rusty Wallace, Inc.), Brad Coleman/July of 2006 (Brewco Motorsports) and Erik Darnell/May of 2007 (Roush Fenway Racing).

Kentucky Winners: 8-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel is the all-time Kentucky winner with 4 victories followed by Ryan Hemphill 2, Chad Blount 2, Kyle Busch 1, Brad Coleman 1, Erik Darnell, Ryan Newman 1, Tim Steele 1 and Steve Wallace 1. Kimmel, the current point leader, is also the all-time lap leader at Kentucky with 536 laps-led in 10 races.

MORE NOTES OF INTEREST:

The WLWT Channel 5-150 at Kentucky marks the 13th event of the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series season. The event also marks the ARCA RE/MAX Series' 15th appearance at Kentucky since the track's inception in 2000.

Erin Crocker continues in her quest to become the first female winner in ARCA RE/MAX Series history. No female has ever won an ARCA RE/MAX Series race although Crocker's been closer than any other. The Wilbraham, Massachusetts driver has 3 runner-up finishes including 2 at Kentucky and one at Kansas.

Toyota makes its return to the ARCA RE/MAX Series line-up at Kentucky with the Eddie Sharp Racing Driver Development team (driver Josh Wise) and Bill Davis Racing (driver Bobby Santos III). Toyotas best finish in RE/MAX Series competition came at Kentucky back in May with Santos, who finished third behind Darnell and Crocker.

Michael McDowell on the March: Michael McDowellis coming off a solid second place finish at Berlin last Saturday where the Phoenix, Arizona driver also won the SIM Factory Pole Award, his fifth of the season, and led the most laps. As a result, McDowell moved from 5th to 3rd in national championship points behind series veterans' Frank Kimmel and Bobby Gerhart. McDowell was the polesitter at Kentucky earlier this year. McDowell is entered in one of two Eddie Sharp Racing entries.
