Jeremy Petty Enters Kansas: Looking to Make 2nd Career Start

SODDY DAISY TN (6-26-06)--Jeremy Petty is looking to make his second career ARCA RE/MAX Series start this weekend in the Kansas Lottery $200 Grand.

The 23-year-old from Smolan, Kansas has one previous start in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, coming last September on the clay at the DuQuoin fairgrounds where he started 28th and finished 18th.  Now Petty is looking to make his first super-speedway start when he attempts to qualify the Wayne Hixson owned #2 for this weekend’s race.

Petty’s Kansas run is in conjunction with the Sequoyah High School Motorsports program that is taught by Ron Cox, the 1999 ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie of the Year.  Petty will be driving the Sequoyah High School program car, with Cox serving as his crew chief for the weekend.  This is the same car that Cox led the Kansas race with last season, and ran securely in the top 5 until running out of fuel during a long green flag run, settling for 15th at the end.

“I am really looking forward to Kansas,” Petty said Sunday from the race shop.  “I ran DuQuoin last year, but DuQuoin is night and day different from Kansas Speedway.  We tested there last week, and after I got comfortable with the track and the car, we had some pretty competitive laps.  Ron (Cox) was on the transporter, coaching me around the track, telling me if I was too high, or too low.  Once I learned the line, we got down to dialing the car in.  I think the car will be very competitive, especially with the horsepower we have from Shaver Motorsports under the hood.”

Prior to making the move to the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Petty’s most recent racing experience was in dirt and asphalt modifieds, as well as the Midwestern United States Super Truck Series.

Several sponsors have come on board to assist Petty in making his first speedway start:  Beaver Express Trucking, Dr. Lawrence Stofkops (Anesthesia Associates of Central Kansas), Super 8 Motel in St. Joseph, Missouri, The Ground Round in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Snap-On Tools by Phil Heard.  They will join Sequoyah High School Motorsports sponsors Petro Express and Shaver Motorsports Engines.
