Scott Lagasse Jr. Impressive at Kansas

DENVER NC (7-5-06)--Scott Lagasse Jr., was the fastest of the field Saturday afternoon but misfortune turned on the No 4 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge Charger.

The team had the car running at such  a blistering pace that no competitor could catch Scott Lagasse Jr. He led 43 laps of the 134-lap race, leading by as much as five seconds at times. However, he ran out of fuel on lap 97 and broke a transmission, effectively ending his day.

“We lost a clutch early on and ran out of fuel. When the fuel light came on I had just crossed the start finish line. The crew told me to come in and I ran out by the time I got around. I tried to fire it back up and we lost the transmission. We had a really, really good car. The car is in one piece, so we’ll pack it up and take it to Kentucky next week. The guys did an awesome job,” said Lagasse Jr.

In addition to leading the most laps, Lagasse posted the quickest lap of the day, circling Kansas Speedway at 163.716 mph on lap 76 to earn the Hurst Fastest Lap Race Award.

The Kansas Lottery 200 should have been an opportunity to score a top five finish for the No Cunningham Motorsports Dodge Charger, but with the headache of unfortunate circumstances that changed everything for the day.

“That broken transmission just bit us today,” said Crew Chief Wayne Carroll. “The guys work so hard in getting these cars ready each week, I feel bad for the team. We’re going back to the shop to get this car ready again for Kentucky. We ran well there in May and had a good racecar. I know that with the dedication that the team has we’ll go get this weekend at Kentucky.”
