ARCA Newest SFI Member Sanctioning Body

The SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) is a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for specialty/performance automotive and racing equipment. Much of the safety equipment in a racecar must be inspected and tested to establish the effectiveness of a given safety product. SFI is responsible for monitoring adherence to the Specs Program by verification of certified test reports from recognized test laboratories and performance audits where applicable, as defined by the Spec procedures. Each SFI Specification is reviewed periodically by committee members, to revise and update as required by current technology.

"Safety is, and always has been, the primary focus of our competition department,” said Ron Drager, ARCA President. “Our ongoing safety initiative will benefit tremendously from our affiliation with SFI.“

Manufacturers of equipment are the primary users of SFI standards. Some standards are adopted as part of the rules of race sanctioning organizations. Ultimately, the consumer benefits from the program as it establishes recognized levels of performance or quality for a product.

ARCA’s membership in SFI is the first of many actions expected as part of the recently announced Hardcore Motorsports ARCA Safety Initiative.

“SFI membership was one of the first things on our list as part of the Safety Initiative,” said Joe Wells, Vice President of Competition for ARCA. “The ability to utilize the vast resources offered by SFI will greatly enhance our efforts in making ARCA a safer place to race.”

A primary objective of the new Hardcore Motorsports ARCA Safety Initiative will involve information and education, as series officials and supporting entities are planning various seminars and instructional conferences during the course of the year. SFI officials are expected to attend select ARCA events over the course of the season, to participate in this process.

"The entire staff of the SFI Foundation is extremely pleased to welcome ARCA as our newest member, joining the list of more than fifty of the world's premier motorsports sanctioning organizations,” said SFI President, Arnie Kuhns.  “These members have access to some eighty-five SFI Quality Assurance Specifications, and also utilize our other safety related programs and services.  It will be both an honor and a privilege for us to work closely with ARCA officials and participants in the pursuit of maximum safety at ARCA events."

The Hardcore Motorsports ARCA Safety Initiative debuted at Daytona International Speedway, where the program was formally introduced under competitive circumstances during the 43rd running of the Daytona ARCA 200.
