(TOLEDO, Ohio – March 31, 2015) – The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is heading south again…to Talladega Superspeedway for an open test Wednesday, April 1. The open test will serve in part as an approval process for drivers seeking to compete on superspeedways and for teams looking to get a leg-up on the competition for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 coming May 1, the 53rd ARCA race at Talladega since 1969.

Entrants for the one-day test include series veterans Mark Thompson (Cartersville, Ga.) and Mobile, Alabama’s Thomas Praytor, as well as an interesting mix of rookies. Praytor, who finished seventh in national points in 2014, is currently seventh in points after two races. Thompson has been around the tour since 1991 and has 94 career starts with two wins, 26 top-fives and 47 top-10s. Thompson owns Phoenix Air, a company that holds U.S. Defense Department contracts that provides tactical electronic warfare training services to Air Force, Air National Guard and Navy. Thompson won the Menards Pole presented by Ansell at Daytona back in February.

Summerland, British Columbia’s Sarah Cornett-Ching leads the way among rookies entered, currently 12th in national championship overall point standings after two events. The certified welder from Canada recently announced she’d be running the complete ARCA Racing Series schedule in 2015 for Tony Blanchard Racing. She most recently finished a career-best 14th at Mobile Int’l Speedway in mid-March.

Orlando, Florida’s Tyler Audie is also scheduled to test. The rookie driver, come fall, will be off to the University of Alabama on a full academic scholarship studying aerospace engineering.

Bo LeMastus, the CEO and Chairman of the Crosley Radio brand, is also entered for the test. Having already tested at Salem Speedway this past Sunday, the Louisville, Kentucky driver has a busy week ahead. From Wednesday’s Talladega test, LeMastus is off to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville for the track’s season-opener Saturday, driving a Sterling Marlin-prepared Pro Late Model, all that ahead of the ARCA race at Nashville the following Saturday, April 11. Daytona 500 champion Geoff Bodine serves LeMastus as ARCA team consultant/spotter.

Carter 2 Motorsports has entered five drivers for Wednesday’s test, all rookies. Those drivers include Richard Altman, Eric Caudell, Scott Edwards, Joey Gattina and Jordan Williams.

On-track activity at Talladega is scheduled in two sessions, a morning session from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and an afternoon session from 1:00 to 5:00. ARCAracing.com will feature live timing and scoring and a live chat board for all on-track activity. In the event of inclement weather, the open test would be moved to Thursday.

The 53rd annual International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway is Friday May 1. The race is live on FOX Sports 1.
