Cunningham's Sargeant, Lee all good in Salem testing

SALEM, Ind. (April 19, 2017) -- It was a good day for Cunningham Motorsports in pre-race testing Wednesday at Salem Speedway. Teammates Dalton Sargeant and Shane Lee spent much of the time circling the high-banked oval getting ready for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 coming April 29-30.

Sargeant finished third in his career-first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start last year at Salem.

“I made my first ARCA start here at Salem last year so it’s good to be back and see how far I’ve come since the beginning of 2016," said Sargeant.

"I think overall the test went well today…we were able try a lot of things with this Big Tine Ford Fusion and I was able to try different lines as a driver so all in all, we both took a lot of positives out of today."

Sargeant, of Boca Raton, Fla., took over the No. 77 ride that Chase Briscoe won the 2016 championship in.

"Chase Briscoe showed that Cunningham Motorsports has a strong package here at Salem Speedway and today’s test session proved that.  As always, I’m looking forward to coming back to this historic track and try to grab our first win of 2017."

Things also went well for Lee, driver of the No. 22 Ford.

“I think it’s been a pretty good day for us," said Lee.

"I really like being able to test at these tracks before returning for the races. We were able to use the entire day to make changes to the car and get it to where we need the car to be to come back in two weeks."

Lee, of Newton, N.C., finished 12th in last year's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

"I’ve been to this track before so I was able to come in and sort of know what my strengths were and what I needed to work on from last year.  This race track requires laps and experience so it was good to find a rhythm and learn more about our car and the track itself. I think we’ll be able to go back to the shop and know what else we need to work on to get this Big Tine Ford Fusion ready for the race.”

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem marks round 2 for the Sioux Chief Short Track Challenge, one of 11 short track events in 2017 that make up ARCA's Short Track championship.

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 will spread out over two days, Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30. Practice is Saturday afternoon from 12:00 noon to 1:30, with General Tire Pole Qualifying following at 3:30. Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 raceday festivities get underway Sunday morning with an on-track driver autograph session from 11:30 to 12:30 followed by the Great American Stock feature event at 1:00. Pre-race ceremonies, ARCA driver introductions and the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 follow.
