Pompa wearing Clemson colors in a sea of Crimson Tide

TALLADEGA, Ala. (May 5, 2017) -- It's probably the last place you'd expect to see a Clemson-branded stock car but get prepared. Ballston Spa, N.Y.'s Ed Pompa, with a complete Clemson University national championship wrap on his No. 10 Chevrolet, will soon be circling Talladega Superspeedway in preparation for this afternoon's ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards General Tire 200, live on FS1 at 5 p.m. local Central time.

“I realize Alabama may not be the best place to run a Clemson scheme but it’s all for a good cause and we get a ton of exposure at Talladega,” said Pompa.

Especially considering Clemson beat Alabama in the national championship game this past January. Despite the heated rivalry, Pompa is wearing the Clemson colors for all the right reasons. Pompa is a longtime supporter of the Double H Ranch for Kids and the Clemson hoods will live on past Talladega.

“We’ve set aside both hoods to be auctioned off for charity. The Daytona hood is being donated to the Clemson Foundation, and the Talladega hood is going to the Double H Ranch. In the end we hope the kids will ultimately be the big winners.”

The Double H Ranch, dedicated to children with life-threatening illnesses, is located in Lucerne, N.Y., and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017. Pompa has been working with the Double H Ranch for the last 20 years.

"A hundred percent of the sponsorship dollars that come into our race team go as donations directly to the Double H Ranch. In fact, I don't even see the transaction. The checks are written directly to Double H Ranch from the sponsors. If a sponsor cuts a check to the Double H, their name goes on the car. Right now, we have Cedar Peaks Enterprises, Milwaukee Crusher, Burt Crane and a few others with us."

James Swanson, who finished in the top-10 ARCA driver points in 2015, is scheduled to serve Pompa as his crew chief at Talladega.

The General Tire 200 is a 2-day event starting with technical inspection Thursday. Friday begins with practice from 8:30 to 10:20 a.m. General Tire Pole Qualifying follows at 2:30 p.m. The General Tire 200 race event is live on FS1 at 5. ARCAracing.com will feature live timing and scoring and live chat of all on-track activities.
