TOLEDO, Ohio (Aug. 12, 2017) The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA), the ARCA Safety Initiative presented by G-Force Racing Gear, and the Motorsports Safety Group are supporting National Immunization Awareness Month this August.
National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. NIAM was established to encourage people of all ages to make sure they are up to date on the vaccines recommended for them. Communities have continued to use the month each year to raise awareness about the important role vaccines play in preventing serious, sometimes deadly, diseases.
Immunization, or vaccination, helps prevent dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. Immunization isn’t just for kids — to stay protected against serious illnesses like the flu, measles, and pneumonia, adults need to get vaccinated too.
Dr. Jason Cormier, founder of the Motorsports Safety Group, suggests that National Immunization Awareness Month is a great time to promote vaccines and remind family, friend and coworkers to stay up to date on their shots.
“We can all use this month to raise awareness about vaccines and share strategies to increase immunization rates with our community,” said Dr. Cormier. “We should be reminded that vaccines aren’t just for kids. People of all ages should get the proper immunizations on an annual basis. I encourage all to have annual check-ups, and ask your doctor which vaccines you should get.”
Everyone age 6 months and older needs to get a flu vaccine every year. Many other shots work best when they are given at certain ages.
