September stretch drive toward championship...“Back to School Month”

TOLEDO, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2017) -- The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA), the ARCA Safety Initiative presented by G-Force Racing Gear and the Motorsports Safety Group wants to remind us to take care of ourselves during this busy time.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule for late August and early September has been demanding, to say the least. Beginning with the Herr’s Potato Chips 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Aug. 20, ARCA teams and Officials have faced a stretch of six race weekends in a row through the Crosley 150 at Kentucky Speedway, including a stretch of three races in 11 days (DuQuoin, Salem and Chicagoland).

All this coming during the season's stretch run, the final one-third of the season.

“When the race teams and officials are as busy as they are this time of the year, it’s easy to forget to eat right, and to get enough rest,” said Dr. Jason Cormier, founder of Motorsports Safety Group.

And so, Dr. Cormier and his associates want to remind all ARCA participants to “take care of ourselves” and offers some basic information that is good medicine for this busy time.

“We need to go back to school on basic nutrition and hydration, the need for rest and recuperation,” Dr. Cormier reminds. “We need to remember the importance of a healthy diet, including the four basic food groups.”

Most people know that eating fruits and vegetables is important for good health, but most of us still aren’t getting enough. This September Motorsports Safety Group is proud to participate in Fruits & Veggies – More Matters Month.

Eating a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you:

  • Lower your risk for heart disease and some types of cancer
  • Maintain or reach a healthy weight
  • Keep your body strong and active

Here are some ideas to help you and your team fit more fruits and vegetables into your day:

  • Keep fresh fruit handy where the whole team can get to it. Whether it’s in the shop, or at the track, a cooler with fruit provides great energy on the spot.
  • Cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they’re ready for quick, healthy snacks.
  • Encourage your team to try a new veggie or fruit every week.

In addition, be sure to drink plenty of fluids. And, be sure to get plenty of rest.

September is the stretch run, but in order to get to the championship event in Kansas Speedway, we need to take care of ourselves during this busy time.
